Lithops are a native of South Africa indeed a strange plant, flowers that open in the afternoon and close before dark. Plants that look a lot like pretty little stones, and those flowers, well they are larger than the plant itself. The name 'lithop' actually means stoneface.

These flowering succulents have become very fashionable as house plants, indeed they seem to be 'collectable'. Lithops hookeri, Lithops julii reticulata, Lithops lesliei and Lithops pseudotruncatella and Lithops dorethea (right)are all worth seeking.

Growing conditions for Lithops and Lithops care.

Lithops require a well drained soil and a sunny position, good ventilation is also important. Remember not to over water.
