Yacon or Peruvian Earth Apple is a popular plant with those who grow it, sweet flesh with an intersting texture make the yacon a feature eaten fresh or baked. To flower properly the Yacon Plant requires a a fair bit of sun, and although fairly tough and tolerant of poor soils, tubers will grow a lot bigger in a loose fertile soil. Yacon (Polymnia sonchifolia) :: Plant Profile and Growing Hints

Also known as the Apple of the Earth, Peruvian Ground Apple,or Ground Pear. This is a relative of the sunflower, small daisy like flowers and growing to 2metres. It is grown for its ebible tubers that can be eaten raw, or cooked.

The smaller reddish tubers are used for propagation, the larger dahlia like tubers are used for eating. Best growing conditions are a moist humus rich soil.
