Saxifraga

is a large genus of the Saxifragacae family. Most saxifraga grow well in woodland settings, prefering a moist shaded position. Saxifraga stolonifera is known "Aaron's beard". Saxifraga are generally speaking 'rock plants' or alpines. Saxifraga are generally speaking low growing clump forming perennials.

Growing Saxifraga


Saxifraga prefer a well drained position in sun to part shade. Saxifraga are often grown in pots as 'show plants'.

With over 400 in the species Saxifraga present a much varied range for the gardener and collector alike.

Saxifraga ?ó urbium 'London Pride' is one worth looking for as is Saxifraga Fortunei 'Sugar Plum Fairy' and Saxifraga caespitosa. Saxifraga stolonifera and Saxifraga poluangelica are easier to find.
