Forms from low growing to 2m. Reasonably drought tolerant green foliage and vivid lavender to white flower spires. Low maintenance best in part shade with good drainage. Can be pruned after flowering to promote a thicker growth habit. plectranthus ecklonii is evergreen to 2m or more preferring shade. Fragrant foliageand deep purple flowers in summer to autumn.

  • Plectranthus argentatus (picture right) is native to Australia and has lovely felty silver leaves, a great ground cover plant that does well in semi shade, will reach around 1m.
  • Plectranthus ecklonii is an evergreen shrub reaching 2m, best in part shade. Purple flower spikes in late summer to autumn.
    P. ecklonii 'Hawthorne Pink' has pink flowers, also availanle is P. ecklonii 'White'
  • Plectranthus ciliatus is a low growing species again from South Africa, fairly vigorous sending out long runners, can become invasive in some conditions.
  • Plectranthus australis is another species from South Africa that sends outlong runners, best used in hanging baskets, sometimes called 'Sweedish Ivy.
