Leucospermum have attractive spiky yellow, red and orange flowerheads and contrasting grey-green foliage, lower growing than the Leucadendrons these fantastic flowering plants can be used to make a mass display that will attract birds to your garden.
Cultivars and hybrids such leucospermum cordifolium x glabrum (picture right) have much improved flower forms and are winners in any garden. Cultivars to look for include 'rigoletto', 'carnival red' and 'carnival copper'.
Species such as the low growing Leucospermum bolusii with its flat flower heads, L.cuneiform, L. glabrum, the yellow and red flowering L. oleifolium, the orange flowering L. patersonii and the interesting L. reflexum are all species worth looking for, however it is the cultivars that are most widely available in Australia
