Originally from China and Japan the Cast Iron plant or Aspidistra elatior is slow growing, but makes up for this by being long lived (read indestructible).

Growing from a rhizome this is a really tough perennial that is widely sold as an indoor plant.

Aspidistra elatior 'Variegata' has attractive green and striped foliage and like the species will reach .5m in full growth. Flowers of the cast iron plant are small and insignificant appearing at the base of the foliage and often being overlooked.

Aspidistra elatior 'Asahi' has lime green striped foliage while Aspidistra elatior 'maculata' has green spotted foliage these two are not as readily availbel for sale.

Growing condition, anywhere out of the full sun, not fussy about soil, fertilizer or water, but will do better if treated well.
