Achacha - Garcinia humilis or achachairúWhats the latest fruit sensation in Australia, it's the 'achacha' a tropical fruit from the rainforests of Bolivia and the botanical name is Garcinia humilis. In Bolivia it is called achachair?? and it is related to the Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), but looks nothing like one. As for taste, it's not as sweet as a mangsteen (it actually has a lower sugar content) and tastes a little like a loquat with a hint of passionfruit..... but it is different, we like them with icecream. You can easily peel them simply by running a knife around the middle, the top comes away from the seed readily. Best NOT stored in the fridge...... |
