Eucalyptus Plant Profile





Eucalyptus, with over 700 species is a large and varied genus, mostly trees but with some shrubs as well. Most Eucalyptus are native to Australia, however they are now found all aver the world. Height varies from 5m to 60m depending on species.

Eucalyptus camaldulensis
is the 'River Red Gum' , Eucalyptus elata the 'River Peppermint', Eucalyptus leucoxylon is the 'Spotted Gum' and Eucalyptus tricarpa the 'Red Ironbark'. Eucalyptus maculata is also referred to as the spotted gum but is actually Corymbia (Eucalyptus) maculata and is used widely in landscaping

The eucalypts from the Mallee area in Victoria provide some interesting smaller growing species include
Eucalyptus forrestiana or 'Fuchsia Gum' Eucalyptus preissiana and Eucalyptus perriniana.
