Astartea are named after the Phoenicean goddess 'Astarte' and have wonderful starry flowers. Being from the south west of WA Astartea require a well drained soil. Astartea fascicularis is probably the most readily available species. Astartea are a medium sized long flowering shrub from Western Australia. Astartea are frost resistent and fairly easy to grow in a well drained soil. Look for the tall growing Astartea heteranthera (picture right) or the interesting prostrate form Astartea fascicularis prostrate. Astartea 'Winter Pink' is a hybrid variety now available from nurseries. Astartea is related to tea tree. Astartea fasticularis is sometimes called the 'Dainty Astartea'. |
